A Shape Command Input Method for Physical Keyboard using Keying Information

چکیده
The keyboard is mainly used for text input, and has function and shortcut keys to reduce the number of manual operations. However, it is difficult and troublesome for beginners to memorize the relations between the keys and functions. We propose, in this paper, two intuitional input methods on the physical keyboard in addition to the usual texttyping: stroke, which traces a shape on the keyboard, and stamp, which presses a shape on the keyboard. Our system automatically classifies user inputs into texttyping, stroke, or stamp from the keying information, enabling us to seamlessly input those commands without additional devices. Author

An Assignment Of Key-Codes For A Japanese Character Keyboard
An input method for ordinary Japanese text is proposed. A regular keyboard has been selected as the input device, as a means to effect touch typing. The primary objective of the design of the code system is to make the keying fast, least fatiguing and error-free. Modeling for performance simulation was carried out, which showed the system to be better in its efficiency in comparison with the St...
متن کاملMétamorphe : Applications for Shape - Changing Keyboards
We present Métamorphe, a novel shape-changing keyboard with keys that can be individually raised and lowered. Métamorphe augments the output of traditional keyboards with haptic and visual feedback, and offers a novel design space for user input on raised keys using new gestures (e.g., squeezing or pushing the sides of keys). We detail the implementation of Métamorphe, describe its properties, ...
متن کاملSpeech versus keying in command and control: effect of concurrent tasking
Speech input is frequently claimed to offer great benefits in human-computer interaction, yet experimental comparisons (conducted over many years) of speech and keying as input media have produced ambiguous results. The sources of this ambiguity must include task-related factors – some tasks lend themselves better to one medium than to the other – but also details of the experimental methodolog...
متن کاملAn Empirical Study of the Robustness of Windows NT Applications Using Random Testing
We report on the third in a series of studies on the reliability of application programs in the face of random input. In 1990 and 1995, we studied the reliability of UNIX application programs, both command line and X-Window based (GUI). In this study, we apply our testing techniques to applications running on the Windows NT operating system. Our testing is simple black-box random input testing;...
